The simplest way to learn about what Theta Xi is and why it is a meaningful college experience is to of course hear it from the Brothers themselves. “I love Theta Xi” is a common phrase to hear around our house, so we asked our members to expand on this and put into words some of the reasons they love this fraternity.
Connor Anderson, Y1302, graduated in 2022
“Theta Xi started off as a house of guys I connected with and found common interests with when I started college, but as the years pass and guys come and go, I have found that for the hundreds of guys who will be here in my four years, old and young, this house is a home of communal brotherhood and growth. Many of the takeaways of what it means to understand someone else’s perspective, appreciate our differences, and find common ground with others was developed at Theta Xi and not in a classroom or in the dorms like many people envision when coming to college (and I lived in the dorms for a year). Theta Xi means something for the men past and future, and hopefully in my time I can lead a house of genuinely good hearted young men and have them pass it on to the next person to walk through our door.”
Ryan Turner, Y1217, graduated in 2017
“Theta Xi is a unique opportunity to grow into adulthood, practice self-government, learn how to live a good life, and learn how to live well with others. Through it, I learned how to be a better leader, better student, better friend, and better man. Best of all, Theta Xi is a true brotherhood. UW can be a difficult place to find your community. But during my four years living in Theta Xi, I met my best friends who have been there for me through thick and thin. I can call or visit them and pick up exactly where we left off the last time we saw one another. It is a community that continues even after graduation. My brothers in Theta Xi are still my best friends and closest confidants, even after several years since graduation. Theta Xi is a bond that never ends. I love Theta Xi!”
Beau Gleason, Y1315, graduated in 2022
“Theta Xi has provided a home and a family for me that has made living far from home a lot easier and more enjoyable.”
Nick Tonel, Y1222, graduated in 2018
“Theta Xi provides an environment where its members can grow into the people that can provide a positive impact in any community they are involved in. The dynamic of our brotherhood allows our brothers to develop with no pressure to be any type of person other than themselves. As a previously active member, being impacted by this type of brotherhood instilled confidence and motivation in myself during this important time of maturation. Taking everything I have learned from my experience as an active member has helped provide a better understanding of the world and people around me and has equipped me with the proper tools to take on any change and adversity that the road of life has planned ahead.”
Kamil Saad, Y1325, graduated in 2021
“I love Theta Xi because it is a group of people that care for me and my well-being. Everyone there is interested in what is happening in my life and wants to see me succeed and be the best person I can be. All of the activities and opportunities have also greatly improved my social life and just made me happier. Theta Xi has made college, which can be a very dry experience, very fun and exciting for me.”
Daniel Lisenbee, Y1319, graduated in 2022
“I love Theta Xi because of the bonds I've made with all the guys in the house that'll last a lifetime.”
Matthew Ng, Y1329, graduated in 2022
“I love Theta Xi because in the hustle and bustle of all the craziness that UW is, it has provided me with a safe space and friends that will last a lifetime. I have found fellowship and community with such a tight-knit group of guys who know how to have fun without being drunk as well as how to support each other in the event of hardship and other cases. Theta Xi is a place where I can not only be myself, but also where I can pursue my passions and dreams with the support and encouragement from others.”
Spencer Bowen, Y1009, graduated in 2004
“I love the lifestyle Theta Xi at University of Washington afforded me. Now that I’ve got a bit of perspective, graduating in 2004, I can see how unique that experience was. Nowhere else can you get their mix of values, amazing life experiences, strong academic support, life-long friendships and an opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities for a century-old home filled with dozens of college men. Not to mention the great food (Chef Gerard has won competitions) and the extreme dollar value (even today it is cheaper than the dorms, including parking and meals). I always recommend Theta Xi to the young men I meet who are looking for a college experience that truly stands above both the dorms and traditional fraternities.”
Brendon Davis, Y1267, graduated in 2020
“In my experience it is not obvious how to determine where you want to go throughout your college journey and, more importantly, how to get there, but within this purgatorial chasm, I have found the most help from the Theta Xi Brotherhood. The support system generated by the senior members of the house acting as mentors, as well as the opportunities for leadership and networking experience, have provided me with the foundational aspects required to maximize my maturation and education while attending the University of Washington. Brotherhood is friendship, but these relationships exist well beyond the scope of normal friends just as they will extend well beyond my time in college. That’s why I love Theta Xi.”
